Talking about Hate*

While I was driving with my son, I was trying to explain hate and why it spreads so easily. The only way I could think to explain it was to be completely straight-forward, people like to hate...it's easy and makes the person who is hating the other person feel superior. All people express hate in some form or another from jealousy, envy, spite, or just (and this ones my favorite) ignorance. The problem really gets rolling when someone who is charismatic and shows great leadership qualities starts convincing others to hate what they  themselves hate. It doesn't matter if it makes sense or even if it has any basis in reality...if they think there special then people think their special following them blindly and spreading that hate.
Hate is a terrifying and unfortunately a liberating feeling because obviously all our faults and shortcomings are someone else's fault..even in it's milder forms and what makes it even worse it's easy...and nothing that comes to us easily is ever worth it in the long run. Honest no strings attached LOVE is one of the hardest emotions to have and express, but it's a noble and life altering pursuit.
I do not lie to my children, there will be times they show hate, feel hate, but how they choose to deal with that emotion, if they let it consume them or rise above it will be completely up to them...but as I always tell them, "Try and be a Good, Honest person, because there is more then enough A**holes in the world, we don't need to add to it."
