Sometimes, I wonder if I should just stop discussing my faith, stop others from discussing theirs with me. The few things that stop me are the fact that I truly believe in showing tolerance and discussing different points of view regarding faith, politics..hell even the best deals for shopping. I'm like a sponge..I just soak up all the knowledge I can get. Though sometimes I wonder if faith should be something private and inconsequential like if your right hand or not. If it was a private matter then maybe "certain" people wouldn't mouth off hateful rhetoric.
I know turning a blind eye is not the answer..it would halt the progression of open minded, tolerant, loving people. Knowledge and understanding of that knowledge, is what keeps the human race moving forward. One of the few things I have noticed though, some people don't want to understand is the way religion affects someones' personal life. Religion should not be what dictates who we are and how we react to the world..that should be dictated by our intelligence, insight, compassion, and our ability to love. Religion can influence us, support us, and be a source of comfort, but it should never be blindly obeyed.
Religion will never stop being a sore spot for some people and we can't pretend that different viewpoints on faith don't exist...so why don't we do the next best thing and get to know the PERSON and leave what's different out of it and focus on what's the same. Maybe then we can share this world with Love and Compassion.

*This is my opinion and nothing more. If I have insulted anyone it was not my intention*

  1. Don't apologize or stop learning. You are doing a great thing by being willing to listen to other points of view. Differences of opinion and custom can be the beautiful parts of relationships, if we let them be. Love and compassion and knowledge can overcome anything (at least that's what I tell myself).

  2. I greatly appreciate learning about other religions or spiritual paths, but I do not support comparing personal paths unless explicitly requested... one of my best friends is a devout Christians, and that only works because we do not talk religion. We accept the differences in each other's lives, and take it from there, concentrating on what we have in common.
