Faith??*

There seems to be this rapid build-up of sites, articles, shows all warning of the dangers of Paganism...I know because Halloween is right around the corner it causes paranoia to run rampant among Fundamentalist groups. My only question is, "Is your Faith so unstable that you must attack and vilify other Faiths?" I talk to people of many different Religious backgrounds and I never feel shaken in my belief system. I am open minded and believe people find their own path to the Divine. What I don't understand is if you don't agree with someone else's views you feel it necessary not only to feel threatened, but also to make sure everyone else turns against people of other faiths as well.
One of the silliest things I saw was one the show "A Haunting" on Discovery channel was when a Wiccan was supposedly possessed by a demon and they made it seem that he brought it on himself and he needed to be exorcised by a Catholic priest...HUH? I mean it's as if even if you have a different faith it is still the "Church" that will save your soul...geesh.
It is time to face the facts people...no one, not even those that follow the same faith, believe in it the same way...should we turn our backs on each other, spread hate and intolerance against everyone who doesn't agree with us just so we don't have to ask ourselves the hard questions. I'm sorry I don't need to be saved or excorised just because of my beliefs. Also if you fear others faith so much, maybe it's time to ask why you feel threatened instead how can I threaten them.

  1. Well, that is part of their belief... several larger religions include "bonus points" for "rescuing" those who do not know. *ahem*

I don't care. Let them do what they think is right, and I will do as I think is right. (I've even got quotes from the Quran to back up my path. Hehe.)

  2. Oh, oh, oh, oh, don't get me started on those shows. First off, how many Witches--not that the Wiccan was a Witch--do you hear about having problems with Spirits? Let's be honest, here. Minus the young and naive. And two, the only "paranormal" show I watch is Ghost Hunters. They have their slip ups once in a while, but most of the time, they're telling it as it is. Spirits are just people. You don't need a exorcist, just tell them off.

Witches/Pagans are almost always misrepresented on channels like History and Discovery. They don't care to find the truth, they want to find the weirdest person that fits into their views and label it as legit for all of us. It's degrading.

I agree with you about the Fundie's fears. They say we're not real and that magik is fake, then turn around and hunt us. Saying we're evil and blah blah blah. Which is it? Do we or don't we exist? Great post. ~)O(~

  3. That was the exact episode of "A Haunting" that caused me to stop watching that show. I really get annoyed when Pagans are misrepresented by the ignorant. The sad truth is that the majority of Christians have no idea what we really believe or represent, or that we don't even believe in "Satan." They are taught from very early childhood that anything that is unfamiliar is evil & influenced by Satan, and if they aren't careful, he/it can get a toe-hold in their souls & they too, can suddenly find themselves unknowingly worshiping him.

They fear Hell more than anything else, so they stay away from anything that could send them there, and in their beliefs, that's us. Their ministers keep them scared & easy to control, it's sad, but true.
